Pirates blank Gauchos, 13-0

MISSION VIEJO -- The bats of the Orange Coast College baseball team needed a few innings to warm up, but once they did, they paved the way for a 13-0 Orange Empire Conference win at Saddleback College on Tuesday over the host Gauchos.
Scoreless through four innings, the Pirates (23-2-1, 10-1 in OEC) -- ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 1 in the nation, according to perfectgame.com -- posted a four-run fifth inning and followed that up with an eight-run sixth to blow the game wide open.
Leading the barrage was sophomore left-fielder Chris Carlson, who went 4-for-6 with two home runs and four RBI. Stefan Sabol added two hits, a run and two RBI, while Trent Woodward added two hits, two runs and two RBI.
In all, OCC pounded out 17 hits and swept the season series from the Gauchos (8-13, 3-8).
Freshman Dallas Draviczki, making just his third start of the season, pitched five scoreless innings to pick up his first win of the season. He cruised through the first four innings before battling through a fifth-inning jam. From there, relievers Eric Salcido, Andrew Bynum, Jimmy Grob and Tyler Mitchell held down the fort and kept the Gauchos off of the scoreboard the rest of the way.
With the win, the Pirates maintain a three-game lead on second-place Riverside (12-12, 7-4) and Santa Ana (18-6, 7-4).
