Pirates topple field at SoCal Preview

BAKERSFIELD -- The Orange Coast College men's golf team left a lasting impression on the 16-team field at Monday's Southern California Regional Preview, winning the event with a team score of 365.

Cypress College finished second overall with a team score of 378, while Palomar College (378) finished third on a tiebreaker with the Chargers. Other team scores include Riverside (379), Canyons (382), Desert (383), Mt. San Jacinto (386), Santa Barbara (391), Glendale (394), Ventura (396), Bakersfield (407), El Camino (410), Allan Hancock (419), Citrus (460) and Victor Valley (No team score). 

At the par-72 Bakersfield Country Club, OCC's Myoung Kim conquered the course and fired a 1-under-par 71, while Bryson Bentley finished just a shot behind his Pirate teammate with an even-par 72. Taka Inoue and Chris Casey each carded 1-over 73s, while Mike Stephens (76) and Connor O'Hern (77) showed the depth and the talent of the 2018 Pirates. 

Monday's preview is a precursor to the end-of-the-year Southern California Regionals, which will be back at Bakersfield CC on Monday, April 7.

Coast will return to Orange Empire Conference action on Wednesday as Cypress hosts at Candlewood Country Club, beginning at 8 a.m.
