Pirates softball duo moving on to the next level

COSTA MESA -- A pair of standout Orange Coast College softball players will be continuing their athletic and academic careers at the four-year level, according to Pirate head coach Jodie Kiaha.

Sophomore first baseman Sarah Hamre will be moving on to Denison University in Ohio, while freshman catcher Kristen Ramillano will be heading to Cal State San Marcos for the 2018-19 school year.

Hamre was a solid, everyday first baseman for the Pirates, playing in 36 of 38 games and batting .301 with 28 hits, 12 runs, four home runs and 18 RBI. Early in the 2018 season, in a doubleheader against L.A. Harbor and Compton, Hamre went 6-for-7 with a run, two doubles, a home run and three RBI as the Pirates won both games that afternoon.

Ramillano batted .246 for Coast in 2018 but was a solid defensive catcher who played in 28 games and collected 15 hits and scored eight runs. Against one of the top teams in Southern California, Riverside City College, Ramillano went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI on Feb. 21.
