RIVERSIDE -- It was a solid showing for the Orange Coast College women's track and field team as the Pirates finished second overall at the 2018 Orange Empire Conference Track and Field Championships, hosted by Riverside City College, on Friday.
Coast finished runner-up with 139 team points, trailing only host RCC (385). Saddleback (87 points) finished third, followed by Fullerton (62), Golden West (51) and Santa Ana (26).
There will be plenty of Pirates representing the college at the Southern California Regional Meet, hosted by San Diego Mesa College, beginning on May 5 (prelims) and finishing on May 12 (finals).
Among those still competing include the 400-meter relay foursome of Paige Fults, Cassandra Guillen, Sophia Johnson and Precious Kilburg, who finished second in the finals with a time of 53.27 seconds.
Another OEC runner-up time was turned in at the 1,500 meters, where Michelle Morgan came in with a solid time of 5:12.29, while teammate Elizabeth Diaz Cortes finished fifth overall with a time of 5:35.93.
Kilburg will be busy at the SoCal Regionals after qualifying in the 100 hurdles (fourth, 18.76) the 400 hurdles (third, 1:14.22), the high jump (sixth, 4-feet 1 1/4 inches), and javelin throw (third, 83-9). In addition to her contribution in the 400 relay, she will also join Fults, Johnson and Guillen in the 1,500 relay after finishing third overall with a time of 4:39.8.
In the javelin throw, Raelynn led a strong field of Pirate throwers with a second-place mark of 102-2, ahead of Kilburg, Julie Mariano (fourth, 81-6), Zuelema Juarez (seventh, 72-0) and Taylor Densen (eighth, 61-11).
Another top-three performance by the Pirates was turned in by Mariano in the high jump, where she finished third overall with a jump of 4-9.
