Silves leads Pirates to seventh-place mark at SoCal Preview

CERRITOS -- Led by the strong running of freshman Meagan Silves, the Orange Coast College women's cross country team finished seventh overall at the 2018 Southern California Regional Preview Meet on Friday at Don Knabe Community Regional Park.

Silvas and her Pirate teammates took on some of the top programs in the region and posted a team score of 186 points, trailing only Glendale (77), Saddleback (82), Ventura (145), San Bernardino Valley (157), Moorpark (166) and El Camino (180) in the 21-team event.

On the 5K course, Silvas averaged a 6:03 mile and finished 10th in the 191-runner field with a time of 19 minutes, 7.6 seconds. 

OCC teammate, sophomore, Andrea Anaya, was next to cross the finish line for the Pirates, placing 22nd overall with a time of 19:41.1, followed by Jackie Ojeda (42nd, 20:36.7), Valeria Rodriguez (21:05.6), Sahari Terrones (76th, 21:41.9), Stephanie Valentin (22:55.3), Yuridia Perez (24:25.2).

Coast will return to action on Friday at the Golden West Invitational, beginning at 9 a.m. at Central Park in Huntington Beach.
