Pirate women earn spot at State Meet following solid Regional performance

CERRITOS -- The Orange Coast College women's cross country team earned a trip to Fresno in two weeks after finishing ninth overall at the 2018 Southern California Regional Championships, held at Don Knabe Regional Park on Friday.

Thanks to a pair of top-30 finishes, the Pirates notched ninth place with 250 points, which earned Coast a spot at the California Community College Athletic Association Cross Country State Championships, set for Nov. 17 at Woodward Park in Fresno.

Freshman standout Megan Silves continued her outstanding season and finished 12th on the 5K course with a time of 18 minutes, 24.5 seconds.

Teammate Andrea Anaya nearly cracked the 19-minute mark and finished 29th overall with a solid time of 19:10.6. 

Other top times for the Pirates include Jackie Ojeda (19:54.1), Angelie Jaimes (20:46.2), Valeria Rodriguez (20:52.9), Sarahi Terrones (21:30.1) and Stephanie Valentin (22:12.8). 

L.A. Harbor used five top-20 performances to win the Southern California Regional title with 53 points. Mt. San Antonio (110 points) finished second overall, while Glendale (122 points) took third.
