Austin Brown, Men's Track and Field

1. Who/What got you interested in your sport and when did you start playing?

"Growing up I watched my father compete in Track and Field, so I can defiantly say he’s the
one that inspired me. My dad was High school track star and later ran track for Oregon State,
then moving on to the Olympic Trials. So since a young age I was running, working out with
my dad, so I can achieve things that he did."

2. If you weren't playing your sport, what other sport would you want to play at the college level?

"If I didn’t have Track and Field I’d want to play football. In high school I was more focused on
football but track and field just ended up working better for me at the next level."

3. What makes your head coach the type of coach you love to play for?

"Our Track program has a few different coaches to cover all the different events. Coach
Williams is a first year head coach that has takin this team and changed the environment and
culture of the program in just a few months. She takes no BS and makes sure everyone on the
team is treated equally and insures that track and field, a sport that many look at to be an
individual sport, to look at it as a team sport instead. One thing I love about Coach Williams is
her love and passion for the sport, you can really see how committed she is to growing this
team. There is also my sprint Coach, Coach Moreno. What makes me love to compete for
coach Moreno is just the fact I respect his passion to make everyone on the sprint team faster
and he has a good sense oh humor."

4. What are you majoring in and what's your favorite class?

"I’m majoring in communications and my favorite class is food and nutrition."

5. What is your perfect pre-race meal?

"I usually eat spaghetti the night before and in the morning before my race I’ll eat a pb & j and
some fruit, during a meet I will eat some type of energy snack."

6. What do you enjoy doing when you're not in school or playing your sport?

"I like to kick it with CBC and play Fortnite on my day off."

7. Walk us through your pre-game warm-up ...

"My pre-sport warm up is just some stretches and strides. Then I’m usually ready to go, I may
sometimes need to roll out."

8. Top three movies are ... ?

"Top three movies would be the Goonies, Get Out, and Fast and the Furious."

9. What is the plan once you graduate?

"My plan once I graduate from OCC is to keep my career in track and field going with
transferring to a 4 year school. After graduating from school completely I plan on becoming a
fire fighter, while being a personal trainer on the side."

10. What is your leadership style?

"I tend to lead by example rather then always telling my teammates what and what not to do. I
do sometimes vocalize my leadership but I rather show them then tell them."
