Second half dooms Pirates in loss to Huskies
COSTA MESA -- A defensive battle in the first half gave way in favor of the guests in the second half as the Orange Coast College football team fell to visiting East L.A. College, 34-7, on Saturday inside LeBard Stadium.
After a sluggish, penalty-filled start to the game for both sides, the Huskies (2-4, 1-2 in conference) found their big play when running back CJ Bozeman took a handoff deep in ELAC territory and broke free, finding the end zone on an 85-yard run, putting East L.A. up, 7-0.
It stayed that way through halftime before the "big play" bit the Pirates a few more times in the second half. ELAC used a touchdown passes of 78 yards and 62 yards, as well as a 38-yard TD run by fullback Pharo Naea to blow the game open in the second half.
Coast found the scoreboard in the final minute of play when Ocean Nihipali-Sesson capped off a nine-play, 49-yard scoring drive with a 2-yard TD run.
Keanu Vasquez threw for 110 yards on 15-of-24 passing, while running back Dorian Webster rushed for 58 yards on five carries. For the Huskies, Logan Ebnet threw for 328 yards and two TDs on 19-of-28 passing, while Bozeman finished the game with 182 rushing yards on 19 carries. Wide Receiver Jaden Thomas caught five passes for 121 yards and a touchdown.
OCC will return to LeBard Stadium on Saturday against Golden West College, beginning at 1 p.m.
