McNair leads Pirates past Rustlers, 9-5

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Sophomore standout Kelsey McNair shined at the plate and in the pitcher's circle for the Orange Coast College softball team as the Pirates topped rival Golden West, 9-5, on Friday at GWC to take the rubber game of this week's three-game series with the Rustlers.

At the plate, McNair went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI for the Pirates (14-14, 8-4 in the Orange Empire Conference). In the circle, she relieved starter Gerorgia Gruber and picked up the win, pitching five strong innings and holding the Rustlers (15-13, 6-6) to just two runs on three hits with nine strikeouts.

Victoria Ruiz went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBI, while Josie Zamora's two run single in the top of the second helped erase and early GWC lead.

After seeing the Rustlers regain the lead, 3-2, after two innings, the Pirate offense went to work, scoring six runs over the next two innings before adding an insurance run in the seventh.

Coast pounded out 13 hits in the win with multi-hit games turned in by Maiah Rodriguez (2-for-4, two runs) and Lauren Trivino (2-for-3, one RBI).

OCC's fifth game in five days takes place on Saturday when the Pirates play at Cerritos College, beginning at 1 p.m. Coast's next home game will be on Thursday against Riverside City College, beginning at 2 p.m.
