Pirates crack top-5 twice at Crew Classic

SAN DIEGO -- In one of the biggest regattas of the season, the Orange Coast College women's crew didn't disappoint, reaching the finals in both races and earning a pair of top-5 results at the 2026 Crew Classic down at Mission Bay this past weekend.

Coast performed well in the preliminary races and both their Varsity 4 boat and Varsity 8 boat earned spots in the grand finale on Sunday.

For the Varsity 8, the crew of Klara Kettler, Madison Garner, Kathryn Henry, Saelah Pescevic, Madyson Fitch, Paige Hasegawa, Elizabeth Anderson, Katelyn De Rosas and Margrett Thai (coxswain) faced off against the best of this western region and in the end, the Pirates finished the 2,000-meter race runner-up overall with a time of 8 minutes, 5.46 seconds, topped only by UC Santa Barbara's time of 7:52.71. UC Irvine finished behind the Pirates in third place with a time of 8:09.77, followed by UC Davis (8:16.73), Long Beach State (8:22.65), San Diego State (8:51.09), UCSB "B" (9:09.83) and UCI "B" (9:39.72).

For the Varsity 4 boat of Kate McAllister, Keeley Bourcy, Alexis Taylor, Genevieve Pettite Gardner and Addison Haught (coxswain), they also earned a spot in the grand finale race against the best of the best and finished fifth overall with a time of 9:27.44. Cal Berkeley topped the field with a time of 8:24.05, followed by Loyola Marymount (8:40.62) for second place and UC Santa Barbara (9:04.62) for third place.

OCC will return to the Boathouse and will host UC Irvine in the annual Collins Cup, which takes place on Saturday, April 11, beginning at 7 a.m.
