Pirates take pair from Bobcats, Tigers
RIVERSIDE -- The was another solid effort for the Orange Coast College beach volleyball team as they topped Saddleback, 5-0 and Riverside 4-1 in an Orange Empire Conference tri-match on Friday.
Against the Bobcats, the Pirates (10-1, 8-0 in the OEC) picked up straight-set wins from the duos of Lola Fersten/Briana Bowman (21-13, 21-11), Sophia Wirtzer/Camryn Hayek (21-14, 21-17) and Reagan Anderson/Ashlyn Couch (21-10, 21-13).
In the No. 1 match, the duo of Jordan Packer/Kayla Ihrig needed a third set, but managed to pull out a 21-11, 19-21, 15-12 win. The No. 5 match was won by way of forfeit.
Coast took 4-of-5 on the host Tigers with straight-set wins coming from Packer/Ihrig (21-17, 21-2), Wirtzer/Hayek (21-9, 21-11), Nicki Lariosa/Caroline Vasquez (21-8, 21-13) and Anderson/Couch (21-12, 21-16).
The Pirates will return to the Newland Courts in Huntington Beach for another Friday tri-match against Fullerton College and Irvine Valley College, beginning at 10 a.m.
