Pirates go 4-for-4 at Collins Cup

NEWPORT BEACH -- It was a clean sweep for the Orange Coast College men's crew as the Pirates topped UC Irvine in all four races at the 2025 Collins Cup.

Coast started off with the Men's Second Novice 8 race against the Anteaters and it proved to be no contest, as the crew of Jordan Stuart, Vincent Blagoi, Robert Thom, Tanner Gilmer, Brayden Marcoux, Giaan Kalsi, Colin Miller, Andres Rodriguez and coxswain Evan Pence rolled to an open-water winning time of 6:27.14 for the 2000-meter race, with UCI a distant second at 7:28.49.

It was more of the same in the Novice 8 as the Pirate crew of Nolan Murphy, Ray Miller, Pierce Uzelac, Jackson Rud, Andrew Chavez, Jeff Stallman, Torin Parsa, Tyler Duss and coxswain Hillary Lowebgrub earned a 25-second win over UCI with a winning time of 6:16.0.

For the Second Varsity 8 boat, rowed by Jacob Michaletz, Evan Elliott, Hugh Gibbs, Luke Holscher, Caden Fenn, Chris Zermeno, Lucien Strona, Noah Thompson and coxswain Charlotte Kuzela, it was another open-water win for the Pirates, who crossed the finish line 48 seconds up in UCI with a winning time of 6:19.5.

And in the headline race -- the Varsity 8 -- UCI gave Coast its closest race of the morning, but it was still an open-water win for the Pirates as the crew of Joe Morken, Tolya Delepine, Umberto Vidali, Jake Johanssen, Kai Blom, Max Gibson, Adrien Howe, Octavio Alva and coxswain Sharlene Stedfield earned a 17-second win on the Anteaters with a time of 6:01.4.

Up next for the Pirates will be a trip to Sacramento for the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships, April 25-27, with the ACRA National Championships set for Nashville, TN May 14-18.
