Pirate men take third at South Coast Opener
LONG BEACH -- The Orange Coast College men's track and field team earned 78 points for a third-place team finish at the South Coast Conference Opener on Saturday, hosted by Long Beach City College.
The Pirates earned a pair of first-place marks in the field events, led by the 1-2 punch of Brendan Clark and Mark Lutke.
Clark, earned the top spot in the javelin throw, where he bettered the entire field with a throw of 163-feet, 4-inches, well clear of LBCC's Gavin Wang's throw of 154-7.
Lutke came through with the best throw of the day in the shot put, placing first overall with a mark of 44-1 1/2.
Lutke was not finished for the day, also earning a third-place performance in the hammer throw with a mark of 146-3.
Spencer Clark was two spots behind Brendan Clark in the javelin with a third-place throw of 139-3.
In the high jump, Jeremiah Wiley earned the bronze, clearing 6'1 1/2, while in the discus, Sean Artest also placed third with a throw of 120-11.
The Pirates will return to action on Saturday at the Cerritos College Opener, beginning at 10 a.m.
