Pirates take second at OEC Track & Field Championships

COSTA MESA -- It was a wet and wild Saturday of competition for the Orange Coast College men's track and field team as the host Pirates dodged the raindrops and earned a second-place team score at the 2025 Orange Empire Conference Track and Field Championships.

The Pirates finished with 171 points, topped only by Riverside City College's 447 points. Fullerton was third with 60 points, followed by Saddleback (51), Santa Ana (26) and Golden West (19).

OCC's Brendan Clark was a gold-medal winner on Saturday in the 400 as he outlasted RCC's Jared Schulte and hit the finish line with a winning time of 48.75, followed by Schulte (48.94) and Pirate teammate Duece Frierson (49.34).

Other top-three performances from the OEC finals included the men's 4x100 relay (Frierson, Clark, Peter Le, Josiah Meggs ... 2nd, 42.02), Caden Guardino in the 5,000 (2nd, 15:24.22), William Dang in the 800 (3rd, 1:59.43), Chance Callinan in the 5,000 (3rd, 15:49.85) and OCC's 4x400 relay (Frierson, Meggs, Clark, Luke Lastra ... 3rd, 3:39.66).

Up next for the Pirates will be the 2025 Southern California Regional Prelims and Finals, hosted by Saddleback College. The prelims will take place on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. with the SoCal Finals set for Saturday, May 10, also at 9 a.m.
