Pirates kick off season strong at Desert Invitational

PALM DESERT -- The Orange Coast College women's golf team is preparing for another successful season in 2025 and the Pirates got things off on the right foot with a second-place performance at the Desert Invitational, hosted by College of the Desert.

Taking on an elite field, oppressive heat and a challenging Lakes Course, the Pirates finished second overall with a two-round team score of 666. Reedley College topped a six-team field that had four of last year's state finalists in it with a winning score of 655. Modesto College finished third overall at 709, followed by Mt. San Antonio (714), San Joaquin Delta (758) and COD (899).

Sophomore standout, Michelle Khin, who finished fifth in the state as an individual last year at the state finals, shot a 76 in the opening round and a 79 in Round 2, for a two-round total of 155, the lowest score among all in the field. Modesto's Sydney Streeter was three shots off of Khin's pace with a 158 (81-77), while Reedley's Tessa Hernandez carded the third-best score with a 160 (82-78).

Other top scores for the Pirates included Sophie Thibodeau with a 166 (84-82), Nalani Sam with a 172 (85-87), Audrey Crinella with a 174 (89-85), Sophia Ingle with a 175 (89-86), and Lilly Thurston with a 191 (93-98).

Coast will return to action on Sept. 3 at El Prado for the Mt. SAC Invitational, beginning at 10 a.m.
