Pirates split beach results with Chargers, Bobcats
IRVINE -- The Orange Coast College beach volleyball team went 1-1 on Friday with a 4-1 Orange Empire Conference win over Cypress College and a 3-2 OEC loss to Saddleback College at the Great Park.
In the win over the Chargers, the Pirates (8-6 overall, 5-1 in the OEC) were led by the duos of Sophie Vienna/Kayla Ihrig (21-13, 21-16), Nika Safavi/Brynn Bisher (21-11, 21-10), Lola Fernsten/Ella Hardstaff (21-7, 21-8) and Joey Payan/Dezi Butler (21-14, 21-16).
The loss against the Bobcats was just the first blemish for the Pirates amongst OEC competitors. Golden West is in first place in the OEC at 4-0, followed by Coast (5-1) and Saddleback (4-1).
The Pirates will host the first-place Rustlers, along with Santiago Canyon on Friday at the Newland Beach Volleyball Courts in Huntington Beach, on Friday, beginning at 10 a.m.
