Pirate track and field kicks off 2026
COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College track and field team kicked off its 2026 season at home as the Pirates hosted the OCC Opener on Friday at the Jim McIlwain Track and Field Complex. For the Pirate men, several OCC competitors showed off some impressive early-season results.
OCC's 400-meter relay team of Josh Santos, Sean McEwen, Andrew Dunlop and Hayden Espinoza fought off a strong Cerritos relay and took first place with a time of 45.39 seconds.
Santos showed off his jumping ability as well as his speed, taking first in both the high jump (6-feet, 0 3/4-inches) and long jump (22-2 1/4). Santos also earned a runner-up time in the 200 at 22.84 seconds.
Pirate hurdler, Josh Miller led from start to finish and won the 400 hurdles event with a time of 58.07.
Other top-3 performances were turned in by Govern Nguyen in the 60-meter hurdles (2nd, 9.05), Bernardo Estrada in the 800 (3rd, 2:04.48), Jacob Fujimoto in the 5,000 (3rd, 16:12.15) and Cash Burton in the triple jump (3rd, 41-6 1/2).
Coast will return to action on Friday and Saturday at Moorpark College, beginning at 9 a.m.
