Pirates producing points at OEC Prelims
RIVERSIDE -- The Orange Coast College men's track and field team picked up some early points at the Orange Empire Conference Track and Field Championships with some opening-week success this past weekend at Riverside City College.
In the 10,000-meter run, Jacob Fujimoto battled the warm weather and a top field of athletes to finish second overall with a time of 34 minutes, 43.69 seconds, less than a minute behind the winner, Luis Mier, of Riverside (33:40.29).
In the men's hammer throw, a pair of Pirates -- Marcos Lerma and Nick Nelson -- earned points for the Pirates, with Lerma finishing fourth overall with a throw of 151-feet, 1-inch and Nelson placing seventh with a mark of 139-4.
A pair of OCC long jumpers earned top-8 marks for their performances, with Josh Santos taking the bronze medal with a jump of 23-feet, 3/4 inches and Cash Burton placing eighth at 20-5 3/4.
Pirate javelin thrower, Josh Miller, picked up a solid five points for the Pirates after finishing fourth in the OEC with a throw of 146-1.
The finals for the majority of the events will take place this coming Friday at Riverside City College.
