Witana earns overall silver at Moorpark heptathlon

MOORPARK -- Orange Coast College track and field standout, Nikki Witana, earned second place overall at the two-day, Moorpark Multi-Event Invitational this past weekend at Moorpark College.

Witana, a sophomore for the Pirates out of Westmont High School, finished, the two-day, seven-event competition with a runner-up overall score of 3,531 points, trailing only Moorpark's Madison Thai, who finished with 3,879 points. Other top-8 performances were turned in by Cuesta's Kristy Huynh (3,406), Riverside's Mabel Gonzalez (3,295), Cuesta's Mia Martin (3,281), Riverside's Madyson Esqueda (3,208), Moorpark's Kaelyn Walsh (2,872) and Moorpark's Natalia Beltran (2,394).

Witana earned the fastest time in the 100-meter hurdles, topping the field at 16.44 seconds. Her other top marks included the 200 (27.3), 800 (2:42.77), high jump (4-feet, 7-1/4 inches), shot put (27-1), long jump (14-8 3/4), and javelin (109-2 3/4). 

The 3,531 points earned by Witana was a State A standard performance, putting her one step closer for an opportunity to qualify for the 3C2A Track and Field State Championships, which will take place May 15-16 at Mt. San Antonio College.
