Pirates win the 2026 Coast Classic
COSTA MESA -- It was a solid performance turned in by the Orange Coast College women's track and field team as the Pirates earned 156 points to win the 2026 Coast Classic on Friday at the Jim McIlwain Track and Field Complex.
OCC's 156 points was well ahead of the rest of the 12-team field, topping Pasadena City (91 points), East L.A. (69), Southwestern (64), Fullerton (62), San Bernardino Valley (44), Golden West (27), Saddleback (26), Palomar (21), Ventura (17), Santa Monica (14), and Antelope Valley (13).
Coast was led by distance runner, Jocelyn Alba, who earned a pair of grueling wins in the warm weather. The sophomore earned a first-place time in the 1,500 meters at 5 minutes, 2.9 seconds, nearly 7 seconds ahead of ELAC's Jasmine Hernandez's second-place time of 5:09.23. In the 5,000, it was the same 1-2 result with Alba (19:48.38) seven seconds ahead of Hernandez (19:55.81) for the top spot.
Hurdler Nikki Witana edged out SBVC's Makayla Traylor (16.05) at the finish line to win the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.99.
Witana joined Paige Hasegawa, Ana Chupinsky and Jasmin Trujillo to conquer the 4x100 relay with a winning time of 51.29. In fact, Coast was 2-for-2 in relay events as the foursome of Chupinsky, Witana, Trujillo and Anna Raspudic took the top spot in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:21.66.
Trujillo earned a first-place individual time in the 800 with a 2:17.95 ... as did Chupinsky in the 400 hurdles (1:09.17).
OCC thrower, Kylie Valerio took care of the top spot in the discus throw with a winning mark of 32-feet, 8 1/4 inches, edging out SWC's Sophia Norgen's mark of 32-4 1/4.
