Coast wraps up nonconference with straight-set win over Knights

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's volleyball team wrapped up the nonconference portion of its schedule with a straight-set win over visiting San Diego City College on Wednesday night inside OCC's Peterson Gym.

With the 25-15, 25-6, 25-13 win over the Knights, the Pirates go a perfect 6-0 through nonconference play and a perfect 18-0 in games played thus far.

The level of play will rise dramatically beginning on Friday night when the Pirates host Fullerton College in both teams' Orange Empire Conference opener, beginning at 6 p.m.

Karlee Riggs led Coast with 7 kills, while Morgan Link added four. Off the bench, several Pirates earned some time on the scoresheet, including Malayzha Dinkins (four kills), Hayley Martin (three kills, Angela Johnson (three kills), Alyssa Assayag (three kills) and Leslie Stiner (three kills).

Setter Allison Lumsden notched 21 assists, while on defense, liberos Andi Frisina and Lindsey Romero comined for 12 digs.

Fullerton College enters Friday's matchup with a 4-3 record through seven nonconference matchups. The Hornets opened the season with four straight wins over Palomar, Cerritos, Ventura and Santa Barbara, before dropping their last three (Mt. San Antonio, Citrus, El Camino).
