Pirates win 12th straight with sweep over Chargers
CYPRESS -- The Orange Coast College women's volleyball team continue to reside atop the Orange Empire Conference with a three-set sweep over Cypress College on Wednesday night.
Karlee Riggs continued her strong, steady play with 16 kills and 12 digs to lead the Pirates past the Chargers, 28-26, 25-21, 25-16.
Dana Nicholson added 10 kills and 11 digs, while Morgan Link chipped in nine kills (.389 attack percentage) to go along with five total blocks (one solo, four assisted).
Blocking was strong for the statewide second-ranked Pirates (12-0, 6-0 in OEC). Leading the way was freshman middle blocker Kourtney Chadderdon, who notched eight blocks (three solo) and sophomore opposite Isabel Emrich, who chipped in with five block assists.
Setter Allison Lumsden dished out 38 assists to go along with five kills and four digs, while libero Andi Frisina notched 16 digs to lead the defense.
The Pirates will return to action on Friday against rival Golden West on Friday, beginning at 6 p.m. at GWC.
The Rustlers are tied with the Pirates atop the OEC standings at 6-0 (11-2 overall) and are ranked seventh in the most recent women's volleyball state polls, provided by the California Community College Sports Information Association.
