Pirates win two; improve win streak to 9

VENTURA -- The Orange Coast College women's water polo team picked up a pair of solid wins on Saturday at the Ventura College Water Polo Tournament, knocking off Merced, 12-5, before topping Fullerton, 14-5.

The Pirates (13-5), winners of nine straight games, grabbed a 5-2 advantage after one quarter before holding Merced to just one goal over the next two quarters, extending their lead to 9-3 with one quarter remaining.

Coast traded tallies with the Blue Devils the rest of the way, with all Pirate players seeing plenty of pool time.

Tatum Rodgers and Ariah Martinez each led the way with three goals for Coast, while goalie Savannah Pena dished out a pair of assists to go along with nine saves to preserve the win.

The goals kept on coming for the Pirates in their 14-5 win over Orange Empire Conference rival, Fullerton College. Coast grabbed the early lead after one quarter and never let up, outscoring the Hornets in every quarter of play.

Hayden Clark and Finley Munchoff were OCC's leading goal-scorers against the Hornets, each finding the back of the net four times. Layla Vargas added three goals for Coast, while Emma Willis scored twice. Pena was again solid in goal for the Pirates with another nine-save performance.

Coast will return to action on Wednesday at Cypress College, beginning at 4:15 p.m.
